Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted on Thursday spurting lava into the sky, thus requiring the evacuation of nearby homes. About 250 earthquakes were detetcted in recent times with 50 happening this Wednesday morning alone.
Officials have ordered evacuation in Leilani Estates (near Pahoa on Big Island) which accounts to over 1500 in population. It is to be noted that considering the seismic activity officials had actually closed the place down for visitors from Tuesday onwards.
The fire department has found very high levels of sulphur di oxide gas in the evacuation area. The Hawaii National Guard has been activated for security and evacuation help. The magnitude of the most severe earthquake has been recorded at 5.
From Monday, the Puu Oo crater floor began to collapse leading to a series of earthquakes pushing the lava into underground chambers. Stay tuned to this page for more updates.
