As marketing strategies go, what happened on Sunday was epic. Don't believe it? The teasers and promos of 'Mersal' and its Telugu avatar, 'Adhirindhi', were aired repeatedly during the telecast of 'Baahubali-2' on Star Vijay and Star Maa respectively.

This strategy has had its advantages. 'Baahubali-2' is suspected to be one of the most-watched movies on television. The TRP figures are not yet out, but if the social media discussions and mentions are anything to go by, its legions of fans out there, especially in India, were glued to the TV sets like crazy.

The Telugu version on Star Maa went on and on for a marathon 4.5 hours. And by and by, 'Adhirindhi' kept on appearing in one form or the other. So is the case with 'Mersal'. This has made certain "anti-fans" say that Vijay's makers needed a film like 'Baahubali-2' to popularize the film even more.

Of course, this is not to agree with the trolls. Vijay's humongous popularity in Tamil Nadu can't be denied by any reasonable argument.
