Has Sooraj Barjatya done right by cutting the length of PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO?

Bollywood is known for making lengthy films, particularly, if it is a big budget ambitious film. Remember Bollywood's most successful blockbusters like MUGHAL-E-AZAM (3hours, 18m), ) SANGAM (1964, 3 hours, 58 minutes), SHOLAY (3 hours, 24 minutes), AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY (3hours, 5 minutes), LAGAAN (2001, 3hours, 44 minutes) the list is long.

In fact Sooraj Barjatya who is known for making entertaining family dramas since his debut film has an obsession of making lengthy films and all his film have been hits. Remember his directorial debut MAINE PYAR KIYA (3 hours 15 minutes), HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN (3 hours 26 minutes) and HUM SAATH SAATH HAIN (nearly 4 hours)

Hence like his previous films he had also made PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO 3 hours 20 minute's long film. However it seems Salman Khan's father Salim Khan, Bollywood's top ranking writer, has advised Sooraj Barjatya to prune the film.

A source close to Salim Khan informed that Salim Khan is quite impressed by the film but felt the movie becomes tiresome due to its length. Hence he has suggested Sooraj Barjatya to edit unwanted action scenes and songs to make the film more spellbinding and crisper.

Sooraj Barjatya, who has great regards for Salim Khan has taken his advice seriously and has edited the film by almost 30 minutes.

However famous Trade expert Atul Mohan feels Sooraj Barjatya has done wrong by deleting the length of the movie. He counters, "Actually cine buffs love long movies and if it is a Salman Khan film then everybody wants more and more of Salman Khan because his magic and charisma is such."

True because if we take a look at Amitabh Bachchan's films released in the late 70's and 80'when he was dominating as Superstar every filmmaker made lengthy films. Remember MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR (3 hours, 9 min), SHAHENSHAH (3 hours), KABHI KABHIE (3 hour) etc.

Whether Sooraj Barjatya has done the right things by pruning the film will only be decided when the film releases this Diwali but one thing is sure Salman Khan's fans have been robbed of the extra time that they would have enjoyed this Diwali!!!

Right or Wrong????
