Has Infosys laid off 10,000 employees? Know it here

It has been reported by several sections of media that the software giant Infosys has laid-off about 10,000 employees. What is the truth?
As reported by a national daily, the number is purely speculative. The company hasn't made any official disclosure regarding the number of employees who have been shown the door. As such, the 10K figure sounds a bit sensationalist.
Not lay-offs but involuntary attrition:
As per the company, it has only resorted to involuntary attrition. This means that those employees whose performance is NOT up to the mark are sacked. If a techie doesn't meet the expectations of the employer for a specified period (for example, three quarters), he or she is asked to quit.
In the present case, Infosys has asked only under-performing employees to leave the organization.
Cognizant lay-offs are fresh in memory:
Just a few days ago, Cognizant sacked about 7,000 employees besides redeploying 5,000 more.
