Has 'Gang' lost the fizz to its rivals?

Aiming to strike the box office at a time when 'Agnyaathavaasi' will be just 2-days-old, 'Gang' is really the season's daring player, especially more so because it's not a straight film. 'Jai Simha', with its Balakrishna-esque punch lines and the presence of an ensemble cast (read Nayanthara, Brahmanandam and Prakash Raj), is also there to boot.
Right from the beginning, the buzz with respect to 'Gang' has been quite subdued. This is so despite the fact that Suriya has a considerably cool fan following in urban and semi-urban centres. Keerthy Suresh is now a star heroine, although her crowd-pulling ability will be known only after PSPK25 and 'Gang'. Ramya Krishna, Karthik and others are nominal players.
The genre of 'Gang' should be able to attract footfalls this festive season, as comedy has its currency all the time. That said, 'Agnyaathavaasi' and 'Rangula Raatnam', too, are going to ride on their comic streak, among other factors.
In terms of publicity, the promotions for the movie are not a match to that of the combined might of the three straight movies in the race.
