The Statue of Unity of Sardar Vallabhai Patel was inaugurated yesterday. Hours later, the controversial image of a signboard came into existence. It had the alleged translations of the term 'Statue of Unity' in different languages. The Tamil translation was nonsensical. It angered many Tamilians, who criticized the central government for its careless attitude towards the Tamil language.
Today, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu tweeted that image, slamming the Centre for failing to include Telugu, a major language in India, in the signboard. He alleged discrimination towards the Telugus even in things that don't entail any expenditure.
As per a report published in a national newspaper, however, the signboard image is a fake one. There is no such signboard installed at the Statue of Unity. If and when such a signboard is installed, the translation will be given in all major Indian languages, an official said.
Has the AP CM recklessly shared an idiotic image?
