Nandamuri Harikrishna, the son of the legendary NT Rama Rao, Jr NTR's father, and Balakrishna's elder brother, died today in a road accident while travelling from Hyderabad to Nellore. The tragedy took place at Nalgonda, approximately 100 km from Hyderabad, in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Aged 61, the former MP and actor, was travelling in a car, which hit a divider. As it flipped, Harikrishna was hurt badly. As per early reports, the deceased person himself was driving the car, that too at a high speed. He died moments after he was taken to a hospital. Both Jr NTR and Nandamuri Kalyanram reached the hospital upon coming to know the shocking news.
Known for his association with his father as the driver of Chaitanya Ratha when the TDP was launched, Harikrishna went on to become the AP state transport minister in the 1980s.
When Harikrishna's eldest son, Janakiram, was killed in a ghastly road accident a few years ago, Jr NTR decided to create awareness about safe driving. Since then, he has been urging people to be safe while driving before the beginning of every film of his. Jr NTR himself escaped a potentially fatal accident in 2009.
