Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have been facing severe criticism following their appearance on the Indian TV reality show Koffee with Karan where they supposedly made a couple of sexist and racist remarks. After the Indian team skipper Virat Kohli expressed his disapproval on the players’ behaviour on the show, it was ace spinner Harbhajan Singh’s turn next to slam the cricketers.
Harbhajan Singh said that Pandya and Rahul made those comments thinking it would make them look cool, but that they instead made a fool of themselves. “We don't talk about all this even with our friends and they were talking on public television. Now people might think was Harbhajan Singh like this, was Anil Kumble like this and was Sachin Tendulkar..” he said in a statement. The livid bowler further added that he wouldn’t want to travel in the same team bus as the players, where his wife and daughter would accompany him. “I will not travel with these two guys in the bus if my daughter or my wife are travelling in the team bus with me. How would they feel? You are looking at women in only one angle and that is not right.”
Indian team skipper Virat Kohli earlier said that the team did not align themselves with the players’ views and that their statements were highly inappropriate. Despite offering an apology, the BCCI decided to suspend Pandya and Rahul from the ongoing three-match ODI series against Australia happening in Sydney.
