A record start at the box office meant that Happy New Year was always going to be safe enough. This is what happened, what with the Shahrukh Khan starrer going on to collect good moolah at the end of its first week. Of course, with an opening day in excess of 40 crore, it was pretty much expected that the film would maintain a wonderful high right through the weekdays as well. Though that wasn't quite the case with collections being decent to good, and not extraordinary, the Farah Khan directed film still managed to emerge as one of the top grossers of the year.
As things stand now, the film has collected around 155-160 crore (exact numbers are awaited as producers are yet to announce their final numbers) which makes it the second highest grosser ever for Shahrukh Khan after Chennai Express. Though it is unlikely that the film would cross the total of Chennai Express (227 crore), it is a plus affair for sure.
All eyes are now on how the second week would perform as that would decide whether Shahrukh Khan would have his second double century in a row, a feat that no actor has achieved so far.
