Whenever a Tamizhian happens to come across the word 'style',  the image of a darkly tanned man with a cigarette jutting out from the corner of his lips, not to mention the irresistible charisma flashes in his/her mind’s eyes.  It’s almost an involuntary reflex to someone who knows this man:  born Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, but as we know (cue drum roll)- the only and only Superstar Rajinikanth.

Pondering  why and how such a man was able to hold his command over youngsters ranging four decades is as silly as it is a herculean task that should be left to ‘branding’ scholars, if there is such a thing. But Rajini’s gameplay is like the stolen secret from the style Gods. So flashing to the naked eye, yet indecipherable to the commoner.

Name any one daring thing- probably he is done it all. Lifting a serpent to place a kiss on its hood, lighting a cigarette with a pistol shot, winning over his opponents with swag(think ‘Annamalai’) is just a part of his job description. Rajini's influence over his fans and the public is so much so that even memes don’t work on him sometimes as people, especially youngsters look on him as a man of authenticity despite the filmy displays.

Rajini is just not 'show', but a man layered with philosophical underpinnings. Movies like ‘Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai’, ‘Mullum Malarum’, ‘Johnny’ and his much later outings like ‘Baasha’ though commercial had serious and meaningful tones to the characters he portrayed on the screen.

In addition to it, the star’s early struggles are nothing new to the people. People look up to the star as someone who aspired a great dream and never stopped at it. His consistent striving has earned the actor a humongous following that makes Hollywood actors turn green with envy.

However, Rajini's larger than life image and super-stardom never made him any different. Contrastingly, among the public he is much known for his real life humble and down to earth personality than the astronomical star appeal that he exuberates like he was born for it. The answer to what youngsters want of this man might lay in the political arena.
