He started off as an assistant to the legendary director Bala in 'Sethu', where he made friends with fellow assistant Ameer. Sasikumar then went on to assist Ameer in his debut directorial film 'Mounam Pesiyadhe' and 'Raam'.
After his tutelage under director Bala and his subsequent works with Ameer, Sasikumar marked his entry into the Tamil film scene with a bang. His first directorial venture ‘Subramaniapuram’ which was shot with a minimalist budget released to rave reviews and overwhelming reception owing to its strong plot and extraordinary storytelling.

The film revolves around how a group of friends help a couple to escape their non-conforming parents for the sake of love. Sasikumar who till then was associated with films surrounding the rural populace, surprised people with his next outing in ‘Easan’ that shook Kollywood by storm. The film released to positive reviews and critical acclaim thus proving Sasikumar’s capability in dishing out a modern story with urban relevance.
After a brilliant performance in 'Poraali' as Ilankumaran which earned him the award for the best actor in The Norway Tamil Film Festival, Sasikumar essayed the role of Sannasi in director Bala’s ‘Tharai Thappattai’ which became a pivotal movie in his filmography. The actor’s appearance in the movie with long braided hair and scraggly beard captivated the audience with his realistic performance justifying his already established brand as a performer.
Even though some of his movies proved unlucky for the actor, Sasikumar has consciously strived for to act in better, socially driven films with good content. And that is why the 'Nadodigal' actor will always have a special place as a ‘friend’ in the hearts of the Tamil people.
