Sasikumar is one of those very rare and few people in the film industry who has not only strongly marked his space in Kollywood as an exceptional actor but also as an ingenious director. Sasikumar who is known for incorporating the morals of friendship and love in his hard hitting films has in a short span of time earned the love of his fans, especially among the youngsters.

Armed with a business administration degree from Madurai's Vellaichamy Nadar College, Sasikumar knew his destiny was elsewhere. The actor began working for films at the age of 20. He started off as an assistant to the legendary director Bala in 'Sethu', where he made friends with fellow assistant Ameer. Sasikumar then went on to assist Ameer in his debut directorial film 'Mounam Pesiyadhe' and 'Raam'.

After his tutelage under director Bala and his subsequent works with Ameer, Sasikumar marked his entry into the Tamil film scene with a bang. His first directorial venture ‘Subramaniapuram’ which was shot with a minimalist budget released to rave reviews and overwhelming reception owing to its strong plot and extraordinary storytelling.

Sasikumar directed, produced and essayed the role of Paraman in the movie which catapulted him from 'just another actor' to someone whom the audience considered their own friend. The movie earned him Filmfare’s Best Tamil Director Award among many other accolades.

Following the enormous success of his first venture Sasikumar reappeared as Karunakaran in director Samuthirakani's 'Nadodigal'. The film revolves around how a group of friends help a couple to escape their non-conforming parents for the sake of love. The film instantly connected with the audience reiterating Sasikumar’s image as someone who his ready to lay down his life for the sake of friendship and love.

Sasikumar who till then was associated with films surrounding the rural populace, surprised people with his next outing in ‘Easan’ that shook Kollywood by storm. The film which was raw and real, reflected the dark side of the Chennai night life surrounding pubs and nightclubs. The film released to positive reviews and critical acclaim thus proving Sasikumar’s capability in dishing out a modern story with urban relevance.

After a brilliant performance in 'Poraali' as Ilankumaran which earned him the award for the best actor in The Norway Tamil Film Festival, Sasikumar essayed the role of Sannasi in director Bala’s ‘Tharai Thappattai’ which became a pivotal movie in his filmography. The actor’s appearance in the movie with long braided hair and scraggly beard captivated the audience with his realistic performance justifying his already established brand as a performer.

Even though some of his movies proved unlucky for the actor, Sasikumar has consciously strived for to act in better, socially driven films with good content. And that is why the 'Nadodigal' actor will always have a special place as a ‘friend’ in the hearts of the Tamil people.

Sasikumar's next venture ‘Kodiveeran’ is produced by the actor himself and directed by Muthaiya with Mahima Nambiar playing the female lead.

Indiaglitz wishes the talented Sasikumar a joyous birthday and a prosperous career ahead!
