Numerous heartbreaks, countless happy ocassions, sorrow or joy, restlessness or rumination- there is a man whose creativity has helped us pass through the major moments of life with mellifluos music. The legend is Ilayaraja. He doesn’t need an introduction, or you could say giving him an introduction is an insult to music crazed fans.

While there are innumerous opinions and commentaries written on the music composer, exploring him as a musician comes not as necessary as bowing down to his exemplary career.

This article is just that, a sign of wonderment on the legend’s 75th birthday. Ilayaraja’s composition is unique and distinct as he was a forerunner in bringing western musicality into the local flavour. And that renders his songs a sense of simplicity and lightness.

Ever imagine a band like The Black Eyed Peas sampling a Tamil musician’s composition? Yes they did, for ‘The Elephunk theme’. Though we see lesser music of the composer in recent times, several directors like Gautham Menon  have helped us revel in the legend’s music. No matter the amount of time passes, Ilayaraja’s music will touch the hearts of listeners for time immemorial, and that’s his magic.

Earlier this year, the maestro was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan in addition to countless earlier achievements that he has gained. On this important beautiful ocassion, Indiaglitz wishes the prolific composer many more happy returns of the day and a long life ahead!
