Happy Birthday to Tamil Cinema's Darling GV Prakash

GV Prakash has taken on several avatars in the Tamil film industry. Starting off as a singer in AR Rahman’s song 'Chikku Bukku Rayile,' he is now a music composer, actor, producer and singer. The talented youngster is now a year older today. As he enters this next year, here’s a tribute to all his previous work in cinema.
When it comes to GV Prakash, melody is the first thing that comes to mind. Be it his music or his voice, GV has enough and more songs that make us go into a trance. ‘Idhu Enna Mayam’ is honestly the most apt name to describe his music. His magic started as early as 2007 with the song of the same name, from his second film ‘Oram Po.’ He’s been unstoppable from then onward. His song ‘Vizhiyil Un Vizhiyil’ from ‘Kireedam’ is a light breezy melody that Ajith and Trisha fans would have surely added to their favourites. Skip to ‘Unn Perai Sollum’ from ‘Angadi Theru.’ This soothing romance track is a superb example of what the composer is capable of.
Following these came the album hits of Madrasapattinam and Aadukalam, two absolute blockbusters. While the first one won awards such as Best Music Director and Best Song of the Year (‘Pookal Pookum’), the latter went on to win the composer more than 10 awards. With songs such as ‘Vizhigalil Oru Vaanavil,’ ‘Aariro,’ ‘Oh Sunanda,’ ‘Gum Zaare,’ and ‘Sandalee,’ GV has been proving that he can do wonders with his compositions.
Now, looking at him as a singer, the quality of his voice is a class apart. The way his voice syncs with the music and flows to the tunes, makes listening to every song of his a beautiful experience. And of course there is enough and more evidence for this, so I’ll have to pick out only a few as proof. These include ‘Yaathe Yaathe,’ ‘Pirai Thedum,’ ‘Oru Murai,’ ‘Kona Kondakari,’ ‘Anbe Anbe’ and ‘Naan Pudicha Mosakuttiyae’ If you haven’t heard these songs yet, you’ve missed out on a lot.
His talent doesn’t end here. For the past 4 years, the composer has also forayed into acting and he has built a space for himself in the industry. His first movie ‘Darling’ was a blockbuster opening to predominantly positive reviews. With awards for his debut film, the then composer laid a foundation as an actor as well. His first few films saw him portray a more comical protagonist till he took up the role of ‘Kaathu,’ a young lover in 'Naachiyaar'. Directed by Bala, the movie showed that GV was capable of a lot more, and we had just seen the beginning of him. ‘Sarvam Thaala Mayam’ also indicated that the composer was growing as an actor, his performances were hitting the nail on the head. Now, after the release of 3 films in 2019, GV has no less than 8 films slated for release this year. This shows his hard work, dedication and commitment.
With his abilities, more opportunities are definitely in store for him. Here’s wishing GV Prakash, our very own ‘Gentleman’, ‘Darling,’ and ‘Bruce Lee,’ an ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ without a doubt, a very happy birthday.
