Happy Birthday, Brahmanandam

  • IndiaGlitz, [Wednesday,February 01 2012]

As India's biggest big screen comedian turns 55 today, he is still very sought after even after acting in well over 900 films. He is one comedian who has who has never seemed routine, majorly because be it as a scapegoat or playing a high-handed elder or even a comic romantic, he never follows the beaten track.

In fact, the reason why the veteran still rules the roost despite the presence of a legion of trendy comedians, and heroes doing comedy themselves, of late, becoming, often, a major success factor for many romantic-comedies likeDhee, Ready, Krishna, and a stupendous attraction even in superstar flicks like Jalsa, Pokiri, is that it is only Brahmanandam who knows how to tickle the funny bone by shining in situational, or slapstick, or screwball, or deadpan comedy acts, equally well. He can seamlessly elicit peals of laughter by wallowing in victim hood as other characters play out peculiar connivery on him, by spoofing high-profile characters like Shankardada MBBS, by burlesquing, by putting himself in jeopardy by hobnobbing with the girl loved by the hero and the villain, by making a befuddled expression, or by gently speaking in English lines like they paid know, she is like my daughter how could I, Iwill let you know.

Rendering life to well-etched characters is easy, but Brahmanandam's uniqueness of amusing even through badly written ones in weary 'comedy' films without being monotonous is worthy of appreciation.

IndiaGlitz wishes him a very happy birthday.
