That day itself, I knew 'LIE' will be a hit: Hanu Raghavapudi [Interview]

Hanu Raghavapudi of 'Andala Rakshasi' and 'Krishnagaadi Veera Prema Gadha' fame has a grand release on August 11. 'LIE', starring Nithiin, Arjun and Megha Akash in lead roles, is touted to be a stylish entertainer. In this interview, he talks about the film, working with Nithiin, and his upcoming movie.
'LIE' is coming across as more of an actioner. What is the place of love in the film?
It's primarily a love-based movie. But there is action, too. As far as I know, there can be no film without love. Its span will change depending on the story line. That's all. There is a revenge aspect, too, about 'LIE'.
The villain's characterization is apparently distinct. What went into conceiving it?
The character was there in mind for a long time. I usually take more time to devise the villain's character. I conceived this character during the intervening period between 'Andala Rakshasi' and the making of 'KVPG'. Nithiin had been wanting to do a film with me. When I narrated this line to him, he liked it.
Action King Arjun's presence has been much-touted. Why so?
I like Arjun garu's acting. I have watched all his movies. I felt that only he should do this character. When Sudhakar Reddy garu (Nithiin's dad) took me to him, I narrated the story with fear in mind. The moment he said that he will do the movie, my faith in the project grew. That day, I knew the film will definitely become a hit.
His character is very stylish. His character's obsession is the film's focal point. The film won't disappoint.
Much has been said about the budget, which went up because of a marathon 70-day schedule in the US. What was the need?
The script needed it. There are many beautiful locations in India, but the story demanded it to be shot in America. The locations and the shots are refreshing.
Hasn't the budget gone up because of the long US schedule?
We did everything as per the story's demands while keeping in mind Nithiin's market value. Anil Sunkara's planning is just awesome. When you see the movie, you will feel that it might have been a Rs. 70 Cr product. The producers gave me so much liberty and it will show on the screen.
How is your life as a filmmaker?
I am enjoying the phase. Getting excited when my film works and getting depressed if it doesn't, is not me. I am always calm, regardless of the result. My friends and the environment around me is the reason for my attitude.
What are your upcoming movies?
I am planning a movie with Nani. The backdrop is Ladakh, and the story revolves around army men. We won't be able to start the shoot until May next year. I am planning to do another movie in the meanwhile.
