Hamza bin Laden, the son of late al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and a potential successor of the militant organization, is dead, according to three United States officials.
The place, date, and time of Hamza's death have not been revealed by the officials, nor has it been confirmed whether or not the US played a role in his death. On being asked by the press if the US had intelligence on Hamza's death, the country's President Donald Trump said, "I don't want to comment on that."
Hamza bin Laden, who played a prominent role in the 9/11 terrorist attack, escaped the attack in 2011 that killed his father Osama and brother Khalid. In his last known public statement in 2018, which was released by al Qaeda's media arm, he threatened Saudi Arabia and called on the people of the Arabian peninsula to revolt.
"Hamza bin Laden is believed to have been born around 1989. His father moved to Afghanistan in 1996 and declared war against the U.S. Hamza went with him and appeared in al Qaeda propaganda videos. As the leader of al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden oversaw operations against Western targets that culminated in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York's World Trade Center and on the Pentagon," according to a report.
