Director H. Vinoth made a splash in Tamil cinema with his debut movie 'Sathuranga Vettai' that dealt with con artists duping the public with fantastic promises. His next movie 'Theeran Adhigaram Ondru' starring Karthi gave an authentic depiction of policemen risking their lives hunting down killer dacoits by traveling to their very den in Northern India.
The success of the two films got him the chance to direct three films back to back with Ajith Kumar as the lead and Boney Kapoor as the producer. 'Nerkonda Paarvai' and 'Valimai' have already been released and have become super hits while 'AK61' will go on floors soon.
Meanwhile Jaya Krishnan the producer of the Tamil movie 'Metro' released in 2016 filed a plagiarism case against H. Vinoth and Boney Kapoor claiming that 'Valimai' was copied from his film without his permission. The film starring Sinish and Bobby Simha was directed by Ananda Krishnan. The court after hearing the case refused to ban 'Valimai' citing there was no evidence of story theft.
Director H. Vinoth has stated that he is contemplating filing a defamation case seeking rupees ten crores for the attempt to tarnish his image by Jayakrishnan. He as further added that he wrote the screenplay of 'Valimai' sourcing daily news reports on chain snatching and biker gangs.
