Starting in 2006, in Veyyil, it has been a steady, successful, and remarkably passionate journey for composer GV Prakash Kumar. He has seasoned with time and has delivered a chart buster to every trend in taste, every single time, marking to be a brand in himself in a decade of cine music. His career is whopping, but here's GV, candid as ever. Here we bring to you, an exclusive interaction we had with the young achiever, as he got chatty with Indiaglitz.

Secret of Success

Across ten years and fifty movies (we're almost there!), GV is no less than an ambassador when it comes to representing music. How did he manage to rise up to this position? "I owe it entirely to dedicated hard work," says GV. "To me, every movie is like my first project. So, I work with the focus of delivering nothing short of the best. So it may get the Credit it deserves."

His Choice

No matter whichever album of his we consider, it seems as though the genre is his forte and the story is his cup of tea. When asked how he chooses his projects, GV says he looks for "something" in all his choices. "For me to be comfortable with the quality of work I put in, I must be convinced with the product I'm working on. I look for a little something, to be impressive to my perception, every time I choose a project. It is not about the cast all the time. For that matter, when Raja Rani and Polladhavan were narrated to me, none of the cast crew had signed in by then. Yet, I saw potential in those stories, and knew I could do justice to them."

Does he opt to work with newbies by choice?

"Working with many new directors has only been a coincidence. I find I have a lot more freedom, to improvise and inject my thoughts, when working with newbies" says GV.

Biggest Challenge

A decade of consistent creativity is no mean feat. In this journey from Veyyil to Theri, we were curious, which was his most challenging moment, to which the answer was quick and confident. "Rerecording for my first project was the most challenging; in fact, I was even scared to a certain extent! I am happy that the final product came out well. It took me 3-4 films to settle down to the idea and be comfortable with the controls, and also be convinced of my work."

Breaking the Hangover...

"It is of utmost importance that I break away from the hangover and compose a new tune every time. I feel, it is a matter of spontaneity, at the mention of each of my projects," says GV. Well, no wonder he is a unique composer!

Theri Secret

Ssshhhh... We have exclusive secrets for you from GV's studio, about Theri! Does Theri have a catchy theme that could become ringtone material (in line with the trend now)? Is it a fan album or a family album? How long did it take to compose these tunes? GV answers it all in one breath.

"Theri will be a complete album. It is for the youth, for family, for fans, fit everybody."

"Yay!" factor: "There is a track - Dub Theri, which will have racy theme music in combination with rap, in dubstep genre."

"Wow!" factor: Must have been a challenge hanging heavy for days, to compose such a complex tune, right? "No. It is all about conceiving the idea and hitting the right notes. All tracks were composed within half an hour. In fact, this is how it has been, for all movies, since Raja Rani."

Actor vs Composer

Raging success as composer on one hand and a rising star as an actor on the other - is GVP a person of conflicting personalities? "As a composer, I'm comfortable where I am. I know my job and am confident of facing challenges. But, I'm still learning as an actor and there's a long, long way to go. I take my director's and co stars' guidance on the sets, and try and improve music as an actor every time." Hmmm, 4 releases in the same year for a young learner... Impressive!

Here's a quickie: "I wasn't confident being an actor, in my debut. In fact, I relied heavily on audience's feedback to decide whether to pursue that career any further at all. I had my fingers tightly knotted cross when Darling released. It was a big relief that audience accepted me. As for the massive success of Trisha Illana Nayanthara, I was astonished that it was received this well, for my performance. I am humbled."

Ambition

It is indeed a remarkable journey, when you turn around and look at the ten years that has passed. There's no questioning that GV Prakash is a stunning success, and it goes without saying that he has raised the bar for himself, at every level. Where does he see himself in the coming years, having spread his wings across multiple feet of creativity? "I am a musician, a singer, and an actor. Going forward, I would like to establish myself as an independent front-runner in each of these categories, at a national level. I strive to deliver my best in all three respects."

Title Magic

How is it that the title of all movies that GV has starred in, are always catchy? Is he particular about the title too? "I suggest titles. I will market something only if I'm convinced with it myself. This applies to the title of my movies too - they should impress me first. I suggested the title Darling. Trisha Illana Nayanthara was given by the director himself, Bruce Lee is one that the director and I came up together with, while Kadavul Irukkan Kumaru and Enakku Innoru Per Irukku are ones that I suggested." Creative genius indeed.

Such a long journey, but seeming so soft and sweet like a cakewalk. The cherubic composer has made it seem effortless, as he continues to be humble as ever. As his 50 is close on the heels of its launch, we wrapped up the interview with a question, and this one for Theri fans. How would he describe the movie? "It is a zealous action thriller while also a family pleaser. Theri is a complete entertainment package,"
