Actor-music director G.V.Prakash Kumar's interest and genuine care for the welfare of farmers of Tamil Nadu is very well known. Today on the occasion of the Nation celebrating India's 70th Independence Day he has released a long statement in which he has urged the people of India to start discussing about the various struggles faced by farmers across the state.

"In out National capital. Delhi, many farmers have been protesting for more than six months now. Since 2015, 604 farmers have committed suicide in Tamil Nadu. It is a shame to the nation at the time when it is celebrating its 70th Independence Day,

Besides this, 45 villages in the Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu have been announced as Petrochemicals zone. Petrochemical factories are going to be constructed in 23 hectare of land in these villages. If the petrochemical projects are implemented in these places, 57,345 acres of land owned by farmers will be retrieved and given to these projects. Due to these projects the surrounding agricultural lands will also be affected. Such projects have been withdrawn in Kerala and West Bengal due to people's resistance. In Tamil Nadu also some people are protesting against these projects.

The farmers of Tamil Nadu are facing severe threats in the form of Methane and Hydrocarbon extraction. These projects may be helpful for our lavish lifetsyle. But in future our children will have to struggle for food and father.

Farmers are not working for their families alone. They are working to give food for all of us. So I request everyone not only those belonging to film industry but also the people from all other industries to start talking about these problems. This my request on this Independence Day. I also humbly request the Union and State Governments to drop the projects that are against people welfare."
