The people's protest for Jallikattu, mainly spearheaded by youngsters and students is a great success as the traditional bull taming sport of Tamils has been conducted this year in various places of the state after a few years gap. Actor and music director G.V.Prakash had been vociferously raising his voice in support of Jallikattu even before it emerged as a people's movement and he also actively took part in the protests at various places of the state.
While the revamp of Jallikattu is very much a proud victory of Tamil youngsters there are various other burning issues waiting for their attention. The most prominent among them is the Union Government's project to extract Methane from the Delta regions of Tamil Nadu. If this project had materialised it would have sounded the death knell to farming activity in Tanjore and so many villages surrounding the city which is called as Nerkalanjiyam of Tamil Nadu. It took a lot of public protest and legal struggle to stop it. Now the ruling BJP government has given up the project.
However the same Government has allegedly given its nod for the Hydrocarbon Extraction project in the Neduvasal village in Pudkottai district to explore natural gas. The farmers living in the area have started protesting against this move since they feel that it will be as nefarious as methane project to the agricultural activity.
Hence they have started protesting against this project. Recently a protest was held by the villagers near a bus stand.
Activist who felt that this should be taken forward as a state wide issue have started campaigning against this project in social media and YouTube. G.V.Prakash who has been concentrating on various social issues affecting the people has lent his support for this campaign by creating in social media with the Hashtag #Save Neduvasal and #Save Indian Farmers .
Vaadivasal is the place from where the bulls are let into the field of Jallikattu. So the youngsters protest saved Jallikattu. We hope the youth power will also save Neduvasal.
