Mohammed Ghouse (28) form Sattenapalle village in Guntur district today died amid contradicting reports about the cause of his death. As per initial reports, he was beaten up by police for violating the lockdown and, as a result, he succumbed to injuries later at a hospital. The deceased was a heart patient.
The police, however, have said that Ghouse was not thrashed at all. Superintendent of Police Ch. Vijaya Rao has been quoted as saying that the man was only asked to show his medical documents after he told the police at the check post that he had to buy medicines.
Soon after Ghouse's death, hundreds gathered at the local police station. Among them are not only his family members and friends but also others. The situation today turned tense after the angry crowds congregated there.
The IG has ordered a probe.
The gathering is potentially disastrous in a district that has seen a surge in positive cases in the past few days.
