Even though insecurities and a need for reassurance every now and then are common in most people, when a man fakes his own kidnapping just to see if his partner cared enough, he has clearly crossed a line and requires serious help.
A 23-year-old man from Gujarat's Rajkot, identified as Mehul Joshi, has been arrested for faking his own abduction to see if his live-in partner, Isha, 'cared enough.' The man, pretending to go to work on Tuesday, reached a lodge in Gandhidham, from where he used a different SIM card to make a call to his girlfriend using a Voice Changer App, in order to avoid suspicion. When he demanded her to bring a sum of Rs. 3 lakh to Gandhidham to retrieve 'her boyfriend,' Isha went to the police instead of adhering to his demand. The man reached a nearby bus stand before the police could trace his location using the phone number. He was nabbed by the police, however, at the bus stand, where he confessed to faking his own abduction to see if his girlfriend 'loved him enough.'
A case has been registered on the accused under Section 182 of the Indian Penal Code, "which corresponds to charges of providing false information to government officials with the intention of misleading them," according to a report.
