'Guddu Rangeela': Khap Leela in Billu's zilla

Khap.. khap.. a non hitting` tequila snub.. Jolly LLB honored Subash Kapoor`s faces a killing` of his guroor` (pride) in this mostly a Band Bheja Baraat that has nothing new to offer either by content or style.
'Guddu Rangeela' is a khap fuelled revenge vehicle that tyres on the real incident of 2007 Manoj Babli honour killings but djangoes into the ishqia and macho movie lane and gets stuck in its gimmick.
Chocking a seemingly decent idea on paper into a smog of self-satisfied flatulence that at the most mirrors a few reigning moments of acting supremacy topped by Billu`s - Ronit Roy`s menacing villain glory.
Cousins Guddu (Amit Sadh) and Rangeela (Arshad Warsi) are street smart modern day Jai Veeru who suspiciously for the audience are lacking the much needed bromance in their escapes as orchestra players by night and informers to the thugs by day.
As they make hey while Mata Ka Email` shines a kidnap of a supposed deaf and dumb Baby (Aditi Rao Hydari) by them makes way for not one but two revenge sagas that has the Khap and Billu Pahalwan (Ronit Roy) in common. Wow!! How easy and convincing is that.
Journalist turned filmmaker Subash Kapoor has a striking record 'Phas Gaye Re Obama', 'Jolly LLB' and obviously the audience approach demands certain novelty even when it proclaims to deal with the Khap`s unaccepted cruelty.
The writer director deserves a pat to at least having an intent to bring this panchayat` on screen but sad this tour de Khap isn,t that sharp and lacks substance.
In order` to be macho and cool bunks the important lessons prescribed in this genre of filmmaking in schools and turns up as just an average badla` story that is saved from going bad to worse by the actors.
Special mention for Ronit Roy, Warshi, Hydari (the girl manages to ooze some charm) and the comical Rajeev Gupta in this men and gun but very little fun.
The desperation to be a guy movie is evident and obvious like Guddu`s untimely jokes and the uninspiring chemistry between Hydari and Amit adds to the grumble which is well supported by Amit Trivedi music baring the Mata song. Jai Mata Di.
There are sparks of brilliance like the line crime mein jab personal touch aa jata hai toh who passionate ho jata hai` ( crime becomes passionate if given a personal touch) and the antakshari sequence brilliantly done by Rajeev Gupta.
To sum it up 'Guddu Rangeela' could have being passionate if Subash Kapoor should have given his personal touch rather than borrowing Django`s from the west and Ishqia`s from the east..
Khap Toh Aise Hi Hai
