In his debut film director Vijay has given a tolerable film but some more fine tuning of the screenplay deleting inconsequential scenes would have taken `Gubbi' to good heights.
The story is hairline but harrowing experience with unnecessary friend's characters, most of them not contribute to the film, except in the prison sequence it looks a futile exercise of the director.
The change of name of Sahana to Ramya (Reema Vora) is what makes protagonist Gautham (Ajith) to run around. When he finds both are one and the same and they known each other very well the meeting turns very precarious for Sahana. Her neck passes a sharp edge from rowdy Naidu accidentally. That is when Naidu is chasing another rowdy to kill him in the city bus stand.
Sahana admitted to hospital fight for life and the protagonist Gautham at the high pitch of anger decide to kill Naidu that is a tough task for him. No one in Bengaluru dare to touch this muscleman Naidu. He is the strong kingpin. The police round off all important rowdies to prison till elections are over. Gautham and gang as extra artists to a film shooting in prison put down Naidu in the kitchen. Already a jail bird uses this opportunity to make a name for him. There is no need to say Sahana alias Ramya escape from the death bed.
Ajith has given a cool and composed performance. He is good in romance, has a physique suitable to this kind of cinema. He has good dialogues to deliver that open up his acting potentiality that was not seen in his debut `Patre Love Padma'. Reema Vora has nothing much to do except move around. She is in the hospital bed for most part of the film.
Rangayana Raghu for his dialogues once again draws the attention. Petrol Prasanna and Naidu anger has come out well.
The yesteryears old Kannada hit Neerinalli Aleya Ungura..has been wrongly placed in the club song. There are two other songs which are too good from upcoming music director Arjun. MR Seenu camera work is adequate.
Scoring 6.5/10
