As the theatre owners strike has been withdrawn after reaching an amicable solution in the talks with the Government, theatres across the state will resume screening movies from tomorrow.

Abirami Ramanathan who announced the withdrawal of the strike has said that the GST will be charged along with the movie tickets as per the rates fixed by Union Government. That is 18% is the GST rate for movie tickets below Rs.100/- and 28% for anything above Rs.100/-.

The decision of the state government to charge Entertainment tax through its local bodies which was the reason for the strike, has been temporarily with held. The Government has formed a committee to discuss about that.

It is still not clear as to whether the ticket rates will be increased according to the GST rate or will it be included within the ticket price.
