In a shocking incident, a baby girl was drowned in a bucket by her grandmother's lover at a hotel in Kaloor in Kerala's Kochi. The baby was one-year-and-eight-months-old and her name was Norah Maria. The police arrested the accused, identified as Benoy John Decruz, 28. Reportedly, the 50-year-old grandmother was not in the hotel room when the toddler was allegedly drowned by the accused. According to the police, Benoy drowned the girl in a bucket full of water by holding her upside down at 2 am on Tuesday. Binoy had allegedly informed Sipsi that the child passed out after choking on the milk that she was drinking. The truth behind incident came to light after Sipsi and Benoy took the baby to a nearby hospital.
According to the hotel employees' statement, Benoy and Sipsi checked in after introducing themselves as a couple. In the evening on March 8, Sipsi reportedly rushed downstairs from their hotel room on the third floor, holding an unconscious child on her shoulder, said the hotel employees. However, when the child was rushed to the hospital, she was declared dead. As the doctors suspected foul play and informed the police, their room was searched and suspected a possibility of a murder as the post-mortem revealed that the death happened due to drowning. When the incident happened, Norah's four years old elder brother was also in the hotel. The Police said that Benoy killed the girl in an act of revenge as Sipsi had earlier filed some complaints against him as he wanted to end his relationship with her. Though there was no evidence to arrest Sipsi, she is likely to be questioned in detail.
The baby girl's mother Diksi, who was working in Dubai, reached Kerala and alleged that her husband Sajeev was also involved in the murder. Reportedly, there had been a dispute between the parents over custody of the children, and since Diksi was abroad, Sipsi had been taking care of her two children.
