'Grand Masti' leaves behind 'Raaz 3', 'The Dirty Picture'

Yet again, prediction came true to the T as 'Grand Masti' took an opening in 60%-70% range and ensured that there were consistent footfalls over the weekend. In fact while it was expected that the Indra Kumar directed affair would break into Top-10 opening weekends comfortably, it actually managed to find its place amongst the Top-5, which is commendable.

The film managed to score a weekend of over 40 crores which is just superb, considering the fact that it doesn't feature anyone from the Top-10 actors in the industry. In the process it has left behind the record of 'Raaz - The Mystery Continues' (36 crores) and 'The Dirty Picture' (30 crores), both top scoring adult films. While the record of first day and first weekend is pretty much in the kitty of this Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani starrer, there are also good expectations of first week record falling into it's kitty as well. The film is a huge hit, and how!

As a result, the other two films - 'John Day' and 'Horror Story' - completely got sidelined. Though they did have a fair share of screens on the opening day, the grand success of 'Grand Masti' proved to be too hot to handle for the relatively much serious affairs. In fact amongst the three films, 'John Day' got best of the reviews and decent appreciation from those who saw it. Still, with very low footfalls that resulted in the weekend collections of around 1.5 crore, there wasn't much to cheer about.

Also, though Vikram Bhatt is a name synonymous with horror, audience gave a cold shoulder to his 'Horror Story' which could fetch just over 2 crore. The film was always meant to score primarily from word of mouth and that could have possibly happened too had the talking point in the town wouldn't have been 'Grand Masti'. It is the low cost of making that would ensure that there are no colossal losses faced by the film.
