BJP leader Daggubati Purandeswari has presented a case against turning all government schools in Andhra Pradesh into English medium schools. Saying that mother tongue is the one connection we have with our roots, she added that "our culture is deeply in our literature, which largely is in our local language."
"It is a well-established fact that children think in their mother tongue and translate them into speech in the spoken language. Besides, the training of teachers is very important," she said, adding, "We have teachers in Government schools, who can hardly speak two sentences in English, without grammatical mistakes. Who and how are we going to train them? Many of our children are first-generation learners."
Purandeswari added, "Unable to cope up with the stress of learning, are we going to convert this human resource into a pool of dropouts?"
