In an interesting development, the Govt. of Kerala has suspended its Director General of Police Jacob Thomas on charges of working against the interests of the State.
Reports emanating from Thiruvananthapuram say that the Govt. cracked the whip on the basis of series of complaints received against Thomas who has been accused on many occasions in the past of working not in favour of the State’s interests.
However, the suspension order didn’t speak about the ‘charges’ made against him of working against the interest of the State despite being the top cop in the State. The order is also silent on the nature of crimes reportedly committed by Thomas.
Suspension of a serving DGP by a State Government on charges of ‘acting against the interests of the State’ has sent shockwaves in Kerala’s Police Department besides confusing the general public.
