Finally the wait for the permanent Chief Minister and a stable government in Tami Nadu is over. The Governor Ch.Vidyasagar Rao who invited Edappadi K.Palanisamy for a meeting at his Raj Bhavan has apparently asked him to form the new Government by taking oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He has also asked him to prove his majority of MLAs support within 15 days by conducting a ballot in the TN Assembly.

Palanisamy was nominated by AIADMK General Secretary V.K.Sasikala and the MLAs supporting her leadership to take over as the CM when she was convicted by the Supreme Court on Tuesday (February 14). Palaniswamy had the support of over 125 MLAs who were hitherto supporting Sasikala's claim to become the Chief Minister as she had the support of majority of MLAs of the ruling party.

Interim Chief Minister O.Panneer Selvam who took charge after the sudden demise of J.Jayalalitha on December 5, started a revolt against Sasikala's plans to take over the top post from him. He has acquired the support of eight MLAs and many MPs. However it is the support of MLAs that is crucial to be able to form the government.

We will have to wait and watch to know the reaction of OPS and his supporters.

The swearing in of Palanisamy as Chief Minister and his council of ministers is expected to be held at the Raj Bhavan at 5 pm IST today.
