With Covid-19 taking a toll on jobs, the Modi government on Saturday announced a new scheme to boost an employment-generating scheme. The Centre is going to spend Rs 50,000 crore on it.
The scheme's name is Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan, which the Prime Minister said is meant to "boost employment and livelihood opportunities for migrant workers returning to villages, in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak." The amount will be spent on "building durable rural infrastructure."
"The campaign of 125 days across 116 districts in six states will work in a mission mode," the government further said.
The focus of the scheme is 6 states as of now. But there are chances are it will be ramped up further.
