Recently, several Twitter accounts trended the hashtag 'Modi Planning Farmer Genocide'. Following this, 250 accounts of Indians and Indian media houses were blocked by Twitter. It was said that the government had asked Twitter India to suspend the irresponsible accounts. However, by the end of the same day, the accounts were revived.
On Wednesday, government sources quoted by ANI said that Twitter has been asked to block the accounts all over again. By unblocking the controversial accounts without the permission of the Indian government, Twitter is said to have violated Indian law. This sort of non-compliance carries a penal sentence, officials have been quoted by ANI as saying.
The micro-blogging site has been threatened with penal action if it doesn't comply with official orders.
Recently, Twitter permanently suspended Donald Trump's account overnight after the Capitol insurrection. The Modi government has been accused of organizing a genocide of farmers. This is blatant and inflammatory. It's fitting that the government wants the mischief-mongers to be put in place.
