It's known that airlines, regardless of the quality of service they render, charge a fee of about Rs 200 per passenger for the check-in services at airport counters. "Airlines such as IndiGo, Spice Jet, and Go First currently charge a fee of Rs 200 if a passenger wants a boarding pass to be issued at the check-in counter," reported Business Standard. This has been done on some or the other pretext, much to the dissatisfaction of travellers.

The Union Aviation Ministry has categorically directed all airlines to stop levying the fee with immediate effect. In a customer-friendly move, the government has taken an encouraging decision.

"Airlines have been instructed by the Government not to charge any fee for a physical boarding pass. Many airlines were charging up to Rs 200 till now for providing a physical copy of the boarding pass," reported ET Now.

In the past, airlines were advised by the government to encourage, facilitate and guide air passengers in making timely web check-in and bag tag printing and minimize/avoid a penal charge on non-web-check-in travelling passengers.
