Governments decision on discontinuing Rs.2000 notes

It is a well known fact that the government issued new Rs.2000 currency notes post demonetisation in November 2016. Now, it has been decided that there is no proposal to discontinue the said currencies. The decision was announced on Friday.

Instead the centre has planned to conduct a field trial of plastic banknotes of Rs.10 at several locations namely Kochi, Mysore, Jaipure, Shimla and Bhubaneswar. These notes will be printed in Indian presses on imported substrates. However, there is no specifications regarding the timelines for these plans.
