Popularly known as the Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood, the iconic actress Madhubala would have turned 86 today. Google commemorates the legendary actress’ birth anniversary with a beautiful and colorful doodle that has won millions of hearts. Although she was fondly remembered as Madhubala, her real name was Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi who was born in Delhi in 1933.
The ‘Anarkali’ of the Hindi Cinema’s first film was at the tender age of 9, after which she starred in ‘Neel Kamal’ as Madhubala. During her 22 years of career span, she has worked for more than 70 films. Some of her notable films include ‘Mahal’, ‘Dulari’, ‘Beqasoor’, ‘Tarana’, ‘Amar’, ‘Mr. & Mrs. '55’ and many more. What established her as an iconic actress in Hindi Cinema is her amazing performance in ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ which is still etched in our hearts. Her famous love-story with her co-star Dilip Kumar is not hidden from the world. Their chemistry in the film is so perfect that they instantly fell for each other while filming for ‘Mughal-e-Azam’.
She has contributed a lot to cinema. She was given the title of “The Biggest Star in the World” by Theatre Arts Magazine. She appeared on a postage stamp of India in 2008 and was bestowed an honor. Her remarkable contributions are still fresh in many of us. Her acting skill was cut short as she fell ill and passed away on February 23, 1969.
