As part of the Central Government’s ‘Loo Review’ Campaign, Google Maps has added thousands of public toilets on the app. More than 45000 loos are now online for citizens to find and use. The campaign was launched in September 2018 by The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Google. Local guides were then involved in rating and reviewing public latrines.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget speech disclosed the official data. Reports suggest that the toilet locator feature has seen high growth in a short span of time. The toilets on the map are spread across 1700 cities in India. Citizens will be able to locate them through Google Maps, Search and Assistant. They can also provide feedback about the public toilets. Hopefully, this will lead to improved sanitation and hygiene on the streets.
