Today’s Google Doodle celebrates the 115th birth anniversary of Kamaladevi Chattopadhayay. A freedom fighter and a staunch feminist, Kamaladevi was crucial in making women participate in Gandhiji’s civil disobediance movements.
Apart from this, Kamaladevi also has the honour of becoming the first woman to run for the legislative office. Born this day in Karnataka’s Mangalore in 1903, she was a strong propounder of women’s rights, political and religious freedom. She also played a major role in promoting art, dance, drama, puppetry, music and handicrafts.
