Goodachari is culturally-rooted: Sashikiran Tikka

Sashikiran Tikka is the director of the moment. His film 'Goodachari' is on a roll, having made more than Rs. 4.40 Cr (Share) at the box-office in its first weekend. In this interview, the debutant talks about his sensibilities, working with Sesh, his future plans and more.

Never expected this great a response

The response has been great. We expected many to be critical but all that we are receiving is praise. It's true that there has been the influence of Hollywood films on me. I have grown up watching them since childhood. But I can't do a Hollywoodish script. It's because a film has to be rooted. 'Goodachari' is a Telugu film content-wise, but in terms of shot-making and sense of style, it's closer to Hollywood.

Such are my sensibilities

I worked with Sekhar Kammula garu for the film 'Leader'. I have made an action film because 'Goodachari' is essentially Adivi Sesh's brainchild. But for my association with Sesh, I would have debuted either with a drama-based movie or a rom-com. I wouldn't have done a spy thriller. I wouldn't have done an action film. I don't like fights personally! Before taking the film to the floors, we educated ourselves about how to make action scenes.

Stubborn attitude

We were never worried about the result. We didn't make the film to score a hit. We made the film to deliver a good product. We were stubborn about it.

Spy thriller is tasting great

We might have tasted a sweet when we were children. But when we taste the same now, the experience would be that much more. There was a time when Krishna garu and Chiranjeevi garu did spy films. There has been so much gap of many years. With a spy thriller coming after so many years, people are loving it. When spy films were made in the 1980s, they were made as per the technology available. We have made 'Goodachari' using appropriate technology in the digital age.

It was Sesh's decision

It was Adivi Sesh's idea to have Supriya Yarlagadda on board as she is a good friend of him. I too felt that she is the right one to pull off the role of a RAW officer. She has been in a commanding position at Annapurna Studios. And her attitude fit the bill for 'Goodachari'. She was not willing to act in the beginning. Even on the first day of shooting, she asked us if we have a Plan-B if she turned out to be bad!

Sequel will be there

Sesh too feels that 'Goodachari' needs a sequel. One can write any number of stories in the 'Goodachari' series. Sesh is already busy with other films. I will do a movie before coming back to the 'Goodachari' series.
