It's known that Covishield and Covaxin have been approved for use in India. The latter is an emergency approval, given that Phase-III results are pending. So far, the vaccination drive has been smooth across the country.
In a positive development, a new vaccine candidate is all set to be launched in India a few months from now. Its name is Covovax. Serum Institute of India, which has manufactured Covishield, has announced that Covovax will be launched in June. "Our partnership for a COVID-19 vaccine with Novavax has also published excellent efficacy results. We have also applied to start trials in India. Hope to launch #COVOVAX by June 2021! (sic)," CEO Adar Poonawalla today wrote.
The new vaccine has proved to be effective and safe in trials in the UK. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote that his country's medicines regulator will assess the vaccine and, if approved, the government will have 60 million doses on order.
