Gomathi Marimuthu who won the 800 metres gold at Asian Atheletics Championships has been handed a provisional suspension as she has tested positive for a banned substance. Gomathi Marimuthu had clocked 2 minutes and 2.70 seconds to win the gold last month.
Her 'A' sample has returned positive for a steroid in the test which was conducted during the Asian Athletics Championships, Doha. Before a month, she had tested positive during Federation cup, and reportedly the National Anti Doping Agency did not communicate it to her, and the Athletics Federation of India is waiting for the reports.
Gomathi Marimuthu however says that she does not understand what's happening and will be asking for testing her B sample. In case her 'B' sample also tests positive, she will be facing a four years ban and India will also lose a gold medal from the Asian Championships. India had won three gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals in the Asian Championships.
