Goli Soda
When a bottle of soda is sealed tight, there is a lot of gas that is produced and stored under pressure between the liquid and cap. If the cap is priced open harder than it demands, all the gas catastrophically renders the bottle into exploding its contents, given the high tension and pressure inside. That's science. There's also psychology to it, says director Vijay Milton of 'Azhagaai Irukiraai Bayamaai Irukiradhu' fame. Directing his second with a group of adolescents straight from the pages of 'Pasanga', 'Goli Soda' rolls out this Friday, starring Shriram, 'Pakkoda' Pandi, Kuttimani and Chandini. The director revealed in press meet that the film is about how pent up pressure can blow up someone, especially a person of impressionable age, like the subjects of 'Goli Soda', who are about 15 years old. It is not only a delicate subject that has been dealt with, but also a sensitive cast. Given that the film's star cast is a bunch of adolescents, it is practically impossible to make them perform in any commercial scenes - like a joke cracked over a bottle of whisky, or a romantic duet. Further, it is an age when one would begin to differentiate the right from wrong, but not have enough physical strength to stand up and fight. Yet, the director has managed to put together all elements of entertainment for the film's commercial success. Interestingly, there is a 7 minutes and 48 seconds long fight sequence in the film; adding curiosity to it, the sequence was canned without public knowledge in Asia's busiest market - Koyambedu! The fight scene has been conceived and choreographed convincingly appealing by Supreme Sundar in the film the predominantly revolves around Koyambedu market. There is a pivotal character curiously called ATM in the film, and the team was not looking for a girl who has striking good features that would bowl you over at first sight; instead, what they wanted was a girl you would grow strong liking to, over time. That is when they spotted Chandini. It is said that while Vijay Milton was not satisfied with the 200 faces he screened, it was by chance that he stumbled upon this girl, when she was returning from school, clad in her uniform. And after an ordeal, she was finalized. Arunagiri has composed the music for 'Goli Soda' and Vijay is said to have approached 20 directors personally, and screened the film for them, taking notes of their opinion in bringing out the best possible. In the 62 days of shooting, 22 days used jimmy jib and 32 days was consumed using steady cam. Rolled out in a metred funds, 'Goli Soda' will be a trendsetter for small and medium budget films. |
