Harris Jeyaraj is the most happening music-director in Kollywood with successive hits under his belt. Following Anniyan and Ullam Ketkumae recently, he had come up with hit numbers in Totti Jaya too. Extending his good run, Harris has come out with five rocking numbers for Ghajini too.
The movie starring Surya and Asin in the lead roles has a mix of mass numbers and soft songs, quite typical to Harris.
With Shankar Mahadevan,Anupama,Bombay Jayashree, Karthik rendering these songs, the audio is certainly expected to top audio chart busters.
Oru Maalai (Karthik) A perfect start to the album. A typical western number, which begins on a slow note and goes on to pick the desired momentum. Karthik, who has come up leaps and bounds and emerged as a seasoned singer, has rendered the song with ease. His seemingly intuitive understanding for intonations and pauses adds luster to the number. The catchy beats provide the necessary wholesome attraction.
X-Machi (Naahul, Mathangi)
Mathangi, this season, has been in good form. Nahul, who we heard in Anniyan, is also in his elements. Suffused with a Latin American flavor, the song has a racy rhythm with effective percussion. Mathangi walks away with all honors coming up with a cultivated twang and providing the song with all the right attractions. Nahul provides her able support.
Suttum Vizhi(Sriram Parthasarathy, Bombay Jayashree)
It is well within Bombay Jayashree and Sriram Parthasarathy territory. This Bharathiar number is of course no comparison to the one that A R Rehman came up with in Kandukondein. But Harris shows his enterprise and elegance in making both ends meet (classical and western fusion). However, the usual energy brimming in Bombay Jayashree's voice is missing in this number.
Rahatulla (Anupama)
It is a free flowing racy number. The rocking number of the album, thanks to Anupama's vibrant ways. Surely, it is set for the top of the charts. The youthful chorus adds sheen to the song with a peppy percussion accompanying it.
Rangola (Shankar Mahadevan, Sujatha) It has become a superstition to have at least one fast paced earthy number in every Tamil film these days. So is this that totally resembles Harris's Randaka Randaka in Anniyan. Living up to reputation is Shankar Mahadevan and Sujatha. However a sense of heard-before takes all charm away from the song.
All the same,Ghajini is an honest effort.
