This is the season of biopics. In Telugu, Praveen Sattaru is going to make one on the life of Pullela Gopichand. Anil Sunkara is producing a biopic of former President Abdul Kalam himself. In Hindi, Shraddha Kapoor is getting ready to play Saina Nehwal. Some day, PVS Sindhu will have her onscreen avatar.

It's now the turn of Kapil Dev, the former cricketer whose legendary stint resulted in India's first-ever world cup victory. The film will be directed by Kabir Khan of 'Ek Tha Tiger' and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' fame. The director feels that Ranveer, who is currently doing Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati', is most apt for the role of the sportsman.

The film will portray how cricket in India was never the same after the historic win at London's Lord's in 1983. After MS Dhoni had his super-hit biopic in 2016, here comes the big project. Note that Sachin Tendulkar's film was more of a docu-drama.
