Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday hinted that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits must brace up for a two-week lockdown soon. Only a Cabinet decision is pending in this regard, the Telangana CM suggested.
"We are considering imposing a lockdown in Hyderabad for 15 days. The Cabinet will take a decision in this regard in three or four days," KCR said.
The statement comes in the wake of a huge spike in cases in Telangana, with a particularly pronounced surge in GHMC. In parts of Hyderabad, traders have already imposed a shutdown of businesses on themselves till July 3.
While the lockdown guidelines are awaited, it may be safe to assume that it's going to be a blanket one, of the kind we saw in April. The State on Saturday reported the highest ever daily surge of 1087 cases, with the total touching 13,436.
