George Reddy was anti-social: ABVP leader

ABVP, the student wing of the RSS, has alleged that the upcoming Telugu film 'George Reddy' glorifies a student leader who was responsible for a number of deaths. The film is a biopic on George Reddy, a radical Leftist student leader who lived in Osmania University decades ago.

The film conspires to project George as a do-gooder. He belonged to a union that worked in tandem with Naxalites and carried out anti-national activities. When ABVP was rising in the University, George and his men resorted to violence to attack the former. Let the Censor Board ascertain facts and only then allow the film's release. Films that cover up the truth and resort to propaganda have to be prevented from being released. George used to carry out anti-social activities and such a leader can't be portrayed as a hero. His rivals can't be projected as mobs and if that happens, we will not tolerate, ABVP Telangana secretary Srisailam said today.

The leader suggested that urban Naxals are behind all the pro-George environment being created. George's men tried to lure away OBCs, SCs and STs into Naxalism. They attacked rivals on the campus with blades, sticks, etc, he added.

As per George's supporters, however, he was a beacon of an egalitarian outlook.

The film, directed by Jeevan Reddy, will hit the screens on November 22.
