Oscar-winning actor George Clooney has revealed that he was recently admitted to a hospital and spent several days over there after he lost 25 pounds (11.3 kgs) for the role in his latest movie, The Midnight Sky.
Four days before the shooting of the movie was scheduled to begin, George Clooney was apparently rushed to a hospital after he complained of severe abdominal pains. The actor was diagnosed with pancreatitis and had to stay at the hospital for a long time before he was ready to shoot again. "I think I was trying too hard to lose the weight quickly and probably wasn't taking care of myself. It took a few weeks to get better and as a director, it's not so easy because you need energy. We were out on this glacier in Finland, which made it a lot harder to work. But it certainly helped with the character," Clooney informed a news agency.
Weight loss was not the only physical transformation the actor had to go through as he had to grow a beard for the role as well, which his wife Amal Clooney was apparently not a big fan of. "I grew a big ugly beard and my son loved it because he'd hide things in it which I wouldn't know about until I got to work and I'd be like, 'Oh, there's a popsicle stuck in my beard.' But my wife and daughter were really happy when it came off because it was very hard to find a face underneath all that mess," he reportedly added.
Apart from directing the movie, George Clooney also essays the role of a cancer riddled astronaut Augustine Lofthouse, who goes through an apolocalyptic event. 'The Midnight Sky' is based on the novel 'Good Morning, Midnight' by Lily Brooks-Dalton and also stars British actors Felicity Jones and David Oyelowo. The movie is scheduled to be released on December 23 on Netflix.
