Kerala Police has initiated the use of the Geofencing technique to trap the people who are evading home quarantine. Introduced by the Kottayam district police in the state, Geofencing is a technology based on GPS (Global Positioning System). As per the technique, the contact numbers and other details of the people who are kept under quarantine are complied and fed in the software that will generate a virtual boundary around their houses.
Currently, the quarantined houses are marked with a sticker and local volunteers and health officials are monitoring them at regular intervals. But soon all districts in the state will start implementing the technique. For this, the police and health department will work closely. If the person, under quarantine, steps out of their house, it will be automatically documented in the geofencing software of the cyber cell department.
Reportedly, the Kollam Police have already started catching people using the technique.
The process
- The health department will collect details of the patient, who is under home quarantine.
- The contact details are handed over to the police control room.
- Then it goes to the home ministry and telecom department and service provider
- Violations of quarantine that gets documented in the geofencing software will be monitored by the cyber cell department.
