Gayakudu Movie Review

While watching 'Gayakudu', it is difficult to figure out what is the real problem, which is the perceived problem.  Siddhansh loves Akshara.  Akshara loves Siddhansh.  That much is clear.  Or maybe, we are wrong.  One of them is scared of some misogynist dad.  That much is clear to us.  But then, it appears, this is not clear to that someone who we think is scared.  There is a good-hearted 'bava' who claims that they are cheating themselves, cheating their hearts, to be precise.  This is when we exclaim, "Whatever happened to the anti-love, anti-friendship, anti-fashionable daughter dad!"  The dad is a wannabe 'hantakudu' who can't tolerate the 'gayakudu'.  But he is forgotten by the story-teller and the poor lovers are alleged to be this or that!  At one point, we even see the girl defending her private space.  Is she a damsel who is distressed that she can't marry her dude or is she a frustrated daughter who is yearning for redemption from her suspicious dad?

Yes, it is all Ghajini experience.

See, there is this orphan who grows up to be an Indian Idol, not a Puri Jagannadh hero.  He is a wannabe SP Balasubramanyam, but for now he is busy playing hide and seek with Akshara.  This Akshara is a huge fan of the singing sensation Siddhansh.  She is oblivious of the fact that the Siddhu she has been talking with over phone for some days is none other than her singing idol.

Before she knows, Siddhansh confesses his love to her.  However, her Anil Kumble look-alike dad despises all this. This one barges his way into the scene and shouts/slaps with no long-lasting consequence.  He values honour more than life and then has no role thereafter!  He has a mistress whom he tries to strangulate to death and that's all.

The daughter is so big a moron that she can't make out when Siddhu says, "Malli.. Malleeeee cheppu" when he is told that she indeed loves Siddhansh.

The film is that marvel where the 20th scene could be 7th or 8th or 9th one.

There is a scene where Siddhansh says, 'Neeku mama, naku mama, evaru cheppuko chooddam?'  If you are above 5 years old, don't even try this.  What is even more shocking is when the heroine says, "Nuvvu super".

The hero and the heroine laugh with age-old jokes with a disproportionate reaction.

There is a comedy track involving Sapthagiri, who calls himself Weapon from Washington.  He wants to build a 9-pack abs and what follows will leave you dumbfounded.

Child artist Akshara is now a female lead.  The lead pair looks good  and that's all.

Verdict: A love story with too many wrong notes.
