Director Gautham Vasudev Menon's short film Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn starring his Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya pair Simbu and Trisha, has been released today and has been receiving great response from netizens and fans.

The short opens with Simbu as Karthik from VTV, now a director, struggling to write a scene in his script "Un Kaaladi thadathil" with a character named Divya. As he finds difficulty in proceeding with the scene, he decides to call his love Jessie. Trisha as Jessie attends Karthik's call, and he reveals he knows she's in Kerala, and that he saw her on her sister's Facebook post.

Karthik and Jessie have a conversation about her twin sons, her husband and his community services and Kerala's less Coronavirus cases. And then Karthik says he needs Jessie's love and that he's missing her love big time that he couldn't work, and is feeling the lowest of lows. When Karthik asks her to tell an "I Love you", Jessie says it for his sake, and goes on to explain how she has moved on from her love with Karthik to an equally beautiful world with her husband and kids. She adds that Karthik's a baby, and her love to him is motherly now, and that he's her third child. Jessie motivates him that theatres will be back soon, and people will celebrate his works and tells him to write more. As they make funny remarks, Jessie confirms if Karthik's feeling better now, and as Karthik confirms, they disconnect, and now Karthik, with renewed energy begins his love story.

The end credits roll with the script titled Kamal and Kadambari (a love story set in London prepared by Gautham Vasudev Menon for Suriya). With AR Rahman's vocals and a soothing background score taking us 10 years back to the VTV days, and the subtle Simbu as Karthik and the pretty Trisha as a mature, understandings Jessie deliver neat performances in this lovely short, which can be seen as a precursor to vtv 2. Let's see if Gautham Vasudev Menon makes an announcement of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya 2 soon after the lockdown ends!
